About This Trail

Banner Forest Heritage Park covers a square mile of second-growth forest and wetland on the Kitsap Peninsula. The main path follows an old road grade for about two miles with gentle terrain suitable for all ages and abilities. Beyond the main corridor, a web of side trails branches through fir, salal, pine, and cedar, with old hemlock stands along the Mismash trail segment.

The trail network forms a maze of intersections with limited signage, so printing a Kitsap County trail map before visiting saves headaches. A protected wetland sits at the park's center. Mountain bikers and horseback riders share the trails, though foot traffic dominates. Black bears occasionally pass through the area.

Mud is a defining feature here, especially from fall through spring. Some trail segments turn into legitimate mud bogs during the wet season. The main path stays more manageable, but spur trails like Banner Slough and sections near Trepidation junction become seriously muddy. Volunteer stewards from the Banner Forest Stewardship Group maintain the system year-round.
