Went in search of the Northern Lights and we found them at Z Lake. Last minute plans to backpack in as the chances of seeing the geomagnetic storm kept getting better and better.

It was time for my annual visit to Z Lake and a few of us decided to turn it into an overnight when we saw the aurora forecast. This was such a beautiful spot to watch it!

I've done 3 daylong hikes within a month in the ancient flood channel that Z Lake sits in. I've also hiked other parts of the Swanson Lakes Wildlife Area multiple times, and I find this area the most enjoyable and interesting to explore.
