On Memorial Day, I went on my first shrub-steppe hike of the season and it was stunningly beautiful. Sometimes, I have to pinch myself because the landscapes of central and eastern Washington are so different from the evergreen of western Washington.
We drove to the Wild Horse Wind and Solar Facility to get our free access pass so we could drive the Beacon Ridge Road, park in designated parking areas and hike the trails. The pass is good for 1 year.
I led my 4th Sagebrush Ramble for the Cascadians to the Wild Horse Wind Farm on Whiskey Dick Mtn today. I was hoping to walk the road that goes along the ridgetop just north of Pine & Government Springs, but when we picked up our permit I was told that we could walk anywhere we wanted except on the roads, as they take you too close to the wind machines, so I had to devise a plan B.
