Recent Reports
My car was the only one at the trailhead lot which overlooks Swanson Lakes and is marked by a sign at the roadside. I walked to the Swanson Lakes Wildlife Area office building, picked up a couple pamphlets and took the old farm road that heads east from the office building.
This hike is flat and arid sagebrush country. Saw not another hiker.
I wanted a longer version of the Z Lake hike, so I talked to some folks with Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife to get their recommendation for a grand tour of the Swanson Lakes Wildlife Area. So know that a shorter version of this hike exists, and one can find it described in Day Hiking Eastern Washington (referenced in the Hiking Guide entry for Z Lakes).
