South-facing corn laps below a Glacier Peak Wilderness lookout, with 3,300 feet of vertical back to the car.
About This Trail
Green Mountain rises to 6,500 feet on the western edge of the Glacier Peak Wilderness, topped by a historic fire lookout with views deep into the heart of the range. The Green Envy line descends the south-facing slopes below the lookout, offering 3,300 vertical feet of skiing through progressively opening terrain.
The approach follows the Suiattle River Road to the Green Mountain trailhead, then the established summer trail for roughly one mile before transitioning to skins. Above treeline, the route ascends mellow south-facing slopes with fairly open trees, switchbacking up the ridgeline toward the lookout. The skin track is straightforward in good conditions, though the final ridge section requires kick-turns on a narrowing spine.
The descent drops the south aspect in wide-open turns above treeline before funneling into gladed trees lower down. Spring corn cycles are reliable on this aspect given adequate solar exposure. In early season or after storms, expect variable conditions ranging from powder stashes in the trees to wind-affected crust on the exposed upper slopes. The lower mountain may require skiing over brush where snow coverage thins.
The Suiattle River Road has been regraded and is in good condition, though the final stretch up the Green Mountain Lookout Road includes steep drop-offs that may challenge two-wheel-drive vehicles in heavier snow. No facilities exist at the trailhead.

Safety & Considerations
Today's Hazard
- Strong sun — sunscreen, hat, and sunglasses recommended
Persistent Hazards
- ATES Challenging: avalanche terrain requires companion rescue skills and avalanche awareness
- Green Mountain Lookout Road has steep drop-offs; two-wheel-drive may struggle in snow
- Ridge approach narrows near the summit with cornices possible on the north side
Getting There
Trailhead parking at the end of Green Mountain Lookout Road, off Suiattle River Road. No facilities. Road condition is generally good after regrading but verify seasonal access, especially before April.
Follow the summer trail for approximately one mile, then skin up through the forest. Above treeline, follow the south-facing slopes toward the lookout, switchbacking up the ridge. The final section requires kick-turns on a narrowing ridge spine. Allow roughly 3 hours for the ascent.
For spring corn, time the ascent to reach the summit by late morning when the south aspect has softened. Early season powder days are less timing-dependent. Allow approximately 5 hours round trip.
