Black Asphalt most of the way, if you skip the "loop" at the end and make it an out and back, you can stay on asphalt the whole way. Otherwise there's a short section where it's a sandy path.

Upon arrival, we were treated by a flock of white pelicans... by the time we parked and walked over to their area they had moved far off so sadly no photos.
