About This Trail

Big Rock Park spreads across a small wedge of city land in Sammamish around the glacial erratic that gave the park its name — a single boulder dropped here by retreating ice and now circled by a short loop. The trail network totals about a mile and a quarter, weaving between second-growth forest, an open meadow, and a wetland reached by a short boardwalk. Paved sections meet ADA standards; gravel and soft-surface paths fill in the rest.

The park is built for short visits. A zip line and play features sit near the parking lot, the boardwalk delivers kids over the wetland for frog hunting, and the loop around Big Rock itself is signed and easy to follow. Cottonwoods and bigleaf maples line the wet pockets; salal and sword fern fill the drier slopes.

This is a neighborhood-scale park. It is not a hiking destination, but it is one of the more thoughtful small parks on the Eastside — well-graded, well-signed, and welcoming for first walks, strollers, and wheelchairs. King County Metro Route 269 stops nearby for transit-dependent visitors.
