should preface my trail report with a note: Big Burn Canon and it's cousin to the south, Hardy Canyon are gems in the vast Cleman Mountain and Oak Creek Wildlife Areas. Several years ago the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife saw it fit to to close the jeep roads that ran up both of these canyons to protect important fish habitat from stream sedimentation.

Everything started out perfectly.... My fiancee and I arrived at the Big Burn Canyon trailhead at about 4pm on Friday.
