Snoquera Falls Loop
Mount Rainier AreaBest Mar–Jun, Oct–Nov
A short forest loop to a fantail cascade that rewards spring visits with thundering snowmelt and carpets of trillium.
About This Trail
Snoquera Falls Loop climbs through thick second-growth forest of western hemlock, cedar, and big-leaf maple before arriving at a sheer rock wall where a fantail waterfall drops into a mossy ravine. The falls run hardest in early spring when snowmelt feeds the creek, and by midsummer the flow can thin to a trickle. A creek crossing below the falls sometimes requires wet boots in high water.
The loop format keeps things interesting. Going counterclockwise reaches the falls faster, then returns through older forest with a rockier, steeper tread. Downed trees appear regularly on the back half but stay manageable. Skunk cabbage and trillium line the lower trail in March and April. The trailhead sits right off Highway 410 near Camp Sheppard, sharing a parking lot with Buck Creek and White River trail access.
This works well as a quick leg-stretcher on the drive to or from Rainier. The 297 meters of gain spread across gentle grades, making it approachable for most fitness levels. Dogs on leash are welcome.
