About This Trail

Pyramid Peak's northwest cirque is one of the lesser-traveled steep ski lines in the central North Cascades, sitting in the country between Snowking, Eldorado, and Mt Baker. The line drops the cirque on the peak's northwest face — a classic spring objective that can stand alone or join the broader Isolation Traverse circuit for parties already linking multiple summits.

Approach details vary by linkage. As a stand-alone, parties typically work in from the Cascade River Road or from longer wilderness traverses already underway. The descent itself is sustained steep snow on a north aspect that holds powder well into the spring corn cycles. Glacier travel is part of the broader terrain even when the cirque itself is non-glaciated.

This is committing North Cascades terrain — limited beta, route-finding required, and approach logistics that demand a multi-day commitment in most cases. Trip reports are sparse; the route rewards parties who can read avalanche terrain, manage steep ski descents, and operate on glaciated approaches. National Park Pass for any approach within North Cascades NP.

Ski Terrain

Steep northwest cirque, sustained snow descent. Powder on cold cycles, spring corn on the right window.

Skin Track

No established skin track. Trail-breaking through complex terrain; bootpack on the cirque approach.

Safety & Considerations

Today's Hazard

  • Strong sun — sunscreen, hat, and sunglasses recommended

Persistent Hazards

  • Steep ski descent with no-fall consequence on the cirque
  • Glacier travel on the broader approach — rope team work required
  • Limited beta and route-finding on remote terrain
  • Multi-day commitment for most parties — weather window mandatory
