Mesahchie Tour via Easy Pass
North CascadesBest Apr–Jun
A spring day tour from Easy Pass over Ragged Ridge to ski the Mesahchie Glacier and exit via Granite Creek.
About This Trail
The Mesahchie Tour gives a one-day version of the broader Ragged Ridge ski terrain — climb from Easy Pass on the North Cascades Highway, traverse Ragged Ridge, and drop the Mesahchie Glacier for sixteen hundred feet of skiing before working back across Ragged View Peak and bushwhacking out to Granite Creek. The full loop runs about twelve to fourteen miles with significant elevation across the ridge work.
The Mesahchie itself offers two drop-in points, both steep with rock and hole exposure that demands careful line choice. Snow quality runs north-south with the slope orientation — north aspects hold powder, south aspects deliver corn on the right cycles. Ridge travel between the entrances exposes the route to weather and cornice hazard.
The exit through Granite Creek involves dense alder and devil's club bushwhack as the snow gives out, and bear encounters in this country are not theoretical. This tour serves as a meaningful day-trip alternative to the multi-day Cosho variant, sharing the Easy Pass and Mesahchie infrastructure but completing in a single push. National Park Pass at the trailhead.
Open glacier skiing on Mesahchie with steep drop-ins. Ridge ski transitions and a long bushy exit through Granite Creek.
No established skin track. Trail-breaking from Easy Pass through ridge terrain. Bootpack on the steepest sections.
