Marble Royal Loop (Eldorado Circumnavigation)
North CascadesBest Apr–May
A counterclockwise spring ski loop around Eldorado Peak via the Marble Needle and Eldorado Royal couloirs.
About This Trail
The Marble Royal Loop circumnavigates Eldorado Peak via two named couloirs — the Marble Needle on the south side and the Eldorado Royal (SW) couloir later in the loop. Approach climbs about six thousand feet from the Cascade Pass area to set up the descents, with crossings of the McAllister and Eldorado Glaciers between objectives.
Skiing combines moderate-angle corn fields with sustained couloir descents — three thousand feet down the Marble Needle alone, plus more on the Eldorado Royal and the connecting glacier sections. Multi-aspect skiing means timing the corn cycles across the loop carefully to catch each pitch in the right window.
This is committing terrain in the heart of the central North Cascades. Hanging snow above the couloirs, sun-warmed rock walls overhead, and active avalanche debris on alternative lines all demand current cycle judgment. April spring corn windows are the standard. National Park Pass at the trailhead.
Two sustained couloir descents (Marble Needle ~3,000 ft, Eldorado Royal somewhat shorter) plus moderate-angle corn fields and glacier crossings between.
Trail-breaking from Cascade Pass approach. Bootpack on the steepest couloir entrances.
