Epic views, beautiful blooming wildflowers, few people and hundreds of butterflies. Recomend doing the loop in clockwise direction for views that continuously open up around each corner.

Approaching from Kettle Falls, the direction is different then described in the guide.   The trailhead sits about half a mile west of the Sherman Overlook campground, marked helpfully by a ‘Trail Crossing 1000 Feet Ahead’ sign.

Perhaps it was the weekday, and/or the vague threat of chilly temps and rain, but we didn’t see a single (human) soul while we were out there.   We approached by the West side of the Sherman Peak Loop, and hiked out via the East side, which was the correct narrative choice.
