Orangegate Park
Puget Sound and IslandsBest May–Oct
A developing greenspace south of Puyallup with rough forest trails and a pipeline corridor, best for locals who want nearby woods.
About This Trail
Orangegate Park is a large Pierce County greenspace that is still being shaped into a proper trail system. WTA volunteers have been out here regularly since 2021, widening tread, building drainage, and decommissioning informal spur trails. The result so far is about 2.5 miles of trail through second-growth forest, with a gravel pipeline corridor cutting through the southern section. The northern portion, accessed from the 84th Street trailhead, offers the most developed paths.
This is not a destination hike. There are no views, no water features, and no amenities beyond what volunteers have built. But for people living in the south Puget Sound area who want a nearby forest walk without driving to a trailhead, it fills a gap. The trails are quiet, the forest has decent cover in rain, and the ongoing volunteer work means conditions improve with each season.
Come with adjusted expectations and you will have a fine walk. The park gets muddy in the wet season, and some sections remain rough or poorly marked. Street parking along 84th Street is the only option. No restroom facilities yet, though a vault toilet is planned for the trailhead lot.

Nice park if you live in the area. It’s quiet once you get away from the roadway.
This was a WTA volunteer work party at Orangegate Park. We had a large crew that accomplished tasks such as widening the trail for horses, creating drainage, and decommissioning a spur trail.
i entered the park at the 84th st trailhead and headed right, which led to an open area and intersected with the pipeline corridor. at this point there is also a bridge that goes to somewhere but i did not head up there as that path was paved.
