Green River Natural Area
Puget SoundBest May–Oct
A trail network dropping from valley rim to salmon-spawning water in Green River country.
About This Trail
The Green River Natural Area protects a thousand acres of valley walls and river bottom between Auburn and Enumclaw. A loose web of trails — Potter's, Hop Craze, Three Bridges, and the Stevensonville Loop — drops from the rim through mixed evergreen and hardwood forest. Big-leaf maples hang heavy with licorice fern, and the tread alternates between wide access roads and single-track.
At the bottom, the Green River flows across a broad valley floor that provides critical spawning and rearing habitat for coho, chum, Chinook salmon, and steelhead. River-level clearings offer takeouts for rafters, tubers, and fly anglers. Trails are shared with horses, so expect hoofprints and step aside on blind corners.
Lower sections flood in winter and spring. Choose the ridge-level trails during wet seasons and save the river access for summer when flows drop.

Recent Reports
Hiked around five miles here on a beautiful sunny Sunday, mid-morning, early afternoon. Saw two other people the entire time.
Beautiful spring hike. Lots of bleeding hearts in bloom, a few trillium and some other small flowers I couldn’t identify.
My hiking group went to O’Grady Natural Area today and we had the worst possible weather ever. Four of the 7 of us carried umbrellas so that gives you an idea of the heavy rain.
