Deception Pass State Park - North Beach
Puget Sound and IslandsBest Year-round
Beach walk under the Deception Pass Bridge with forest spurs and rock outcroppings.
About This Trail
North Beach connects West Beach to the North Beach parking area through forest, with side trails dropping to sand, rock outcroppings, and views of the Deception Pass Bridge from below. The main trail runs through old-growth timber above the shoreline, but the real draw is stepping off onto the beach spurs.
The walk itself is short and nearly flat. Most park visitors stay on the bridge or the main viewpoints, so the North Beach trail sees lighter traffic than the park's reputation suggests. On clear days, the bridge towers frame the water and the San Juan Islands beyond. On stormy days, the surf and current through the pass put on a show of their own.
West Beach parking has been losing ground to winter storms, with sand and driftwood washing into stalls. The remaining spots fill on summer weekends. Off-season visits are reliably uncrowded. This pairs naturally with Goose Rock or the Headlands trails for a full day in the park.
