About This Trail

West Bay Woods is a City of Olympia nature preserve on the west shore of Budd Inlet. Short footpaths wander through second-growth forest on ground that was tideland not long ago. Shells and other shoreline artifacts still turn up along the trails, visible reminders that the bay once reached much farther inland.

The park is well suited to families looking for a short outing close to downtown. Expect birdsong, glimpses of deer, and a quiet walk under the canopy. The park is open daily from dawn to dusk. There is no restroom at the trailhead.

Parking is the main logistical note. There is no lot at the trailhead itself. Park along Rogers Street NW and walk in.
