Hub trail through burn recovery connecting Tronsen Head, Naneum basin loops, and the best larch groves near Blewett Pass.
About This Trail
Table Mountain Trail traverses a burn area southeast of Blewett Pass, connecting Ken Wilcox Horse Camp with the upper Naneum basin and Tronsen Head. The route passes through recovering forest with pockets of surviving larch and ponderosa that frame views of the surrounding ridges. About half a mile in, a signed junction marks the Tronsen Head turnoff for a worthwhile side trip to the 5,980-foot summit.
Beyond the Tronsen Head junction, the trail continues through more open burn terrain with expanding views before reaching an unmarked junction with Elk Trap Springs Trail around 1.5 miles. This intersection opens up loop possibilities through Naneum Creek Trail and Naneum Meadows, making Table Mountain the hub of a trail network that covers the entire basin. The trail can be accessed from three directions: Ken Wilcox Horse Camp, the Tronsen Creek ORV parking lot (steep 1,000-foot climb), or Upper Naneum Meadow.
October brings the main event, when surviving larch groves turn brilliant gold against the charred backdrop. The contrast between fire-killed snags and golden larch makes this one of the more photogenic larch destinations in the eastern Cascades.

I'd taken Friday the 13th off and several of my friends were able to join me in a larch march in Blewett. When we realized the drive to the trailhead after getting off Blewett Pass was going to take 45m, we made a last minute decision to access this loop from the Tronson Ridge ORV trailhead.
