About This Trail

Swauk Meadows follows old forest roads from the Pipe Creek Sno-Park through quiet timber for about two miles before reaching Swauk Meadow, a large open prairie ringed by trees. The meadow is the centerpiece of this route, a wide, flat expanse that feels expansive and isolated under winter snow. Views of Diamond Head rise above the tree line to the northeast.

The route can be done as an out-and-back from Pipe Creek (6.7 miles round trip) or extended into a full-day loop that connects to the Blewett Pass Sno-Park trail system. Cross-country skiers also use these roads, so snowshoers should stick to the edges and avoid damaging ski tracks. The terrain is flat to gently rolling, with no significant elevation gain.

This is one of the quietest winter routes in the Blewett Pass area. Trip reports consistently note seeing no other people. The combination of solitude, easy terrain, and the open meadow payoff makes it a good pick for snowshoers who want distance without difficulty.

Amazingly, I backtracked in my own prints about a mile and found it, half-buried in the snow.

A small miracle occurred today at Swauk Meadows: after hiking all the way nearly to Tronsen Meadow from Pipe Creek, I noticed that the case for my airpods had fallen out of my pocket. Amazingly, I backtracked in my own prints about a mile and found it, half-buried in the snow.

Family snowshoe outing (kids aged 12-9-6) from the Pipe Creek Sno-Park. We went out and back for a total of about 3.

The Pipe Ck area makes for nice quiet skiing or snowshoeing. It is lightly travelled and I rarely see others there.
