Hiked from Surprise Lake Trailhead to Surprise Gap and then up to the old lookout site on the top of Surprise Mountain. Great workout and good views for lunch.

Hiked from Surprise Creek Trailhead to Surprise Mountain, taking the most direct path next to Surprise Lake and Glacier Lake, then up through the signed as "abandoned" trail through the gully on climbers left of the peak to Surprise Gap and then following the S-SE ridge to the peak. This "abandoned" portion of the trail is well established and fairly easy to follow.
