Preston Creek Road Snowshoe
Central CascadesBest Dec–Mar
A long forest road snowshoe up the Entiat valley with expanding mountain views and multiple turnaround options.
About This Trail
Preston Creek Road follows Forest Service Road 5501 off Entiat River Road, climbing steeply in the first two miles before leveling out into rolling terrain through the Entiat Mountains. The initial pitch gains nearly 1,000 feet and can be icy, so solid snowshoe technique helps here. Valley views open up at three-quarters of a mile, and Baldy Mountain comes into sight around 1.5 miles.
At the signed intersection near 2,760 feet, you can turn around for a short day or continue along several branching routes. A 2.5-mile option reaches a saddle with broad views, and an additional 1.4-mile ridge walk extends the outing with panoramic sightlines across the Entiat drainage. The road surface is wide and easy to follow under snow, making navigation straightforward even in flat light.
Note: As of early 2026, the Entiat River Road is closed due to storm damage. Check road status before planning a trip.
