About This Trail

Pomas Creek Trail climbs from the Entiat River valley to Pomas Pass at 6,988 feet, crossing from the Entiat drainage into the Ice Creek drainage near the Glacier Peak Wilderness boundary. The trail gains 3,100 feet over 5 miles, passing through forest before reaching subalpine meadows near the pass. Views from Pomas Pass include the Entiat peaks and the Ice Creek valley stretching toward Mount Maude.

The trail serves as a connector in the Entiat River trail network, linking to Ice Creek, Larch Lakes, and Cow Creek Meadows. Most parties use it as part of multi-day loops through the Entiat backcountry. The approach starts from the Entiat River trailhead, requiring an 8-mile hike up the Entiat River Trail before reaching the Pomas Creek junction.

The 2025 Pomas Fire burned in the Entiat River valley near the Pomas Creek and Ice Creek confluence. Check current closure status with the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest before planning a trip. Northwest Forest Pass required at the Entiat River trailhead.

Flying into Seattle on Sunday 6/15 I got a good view at the Pomas Wildfire burning in the Entiat River valley. It is located near where Pomas Creek meets Ice Creek, not too far from where Ice Creek meets the Entiat River around 8 miles up the Entiat River Trail.

Summary: With my trusty Golden Retriever, I squeezed a fun, challenging shoulder-season 4 night lollipop-ish route thru the Entiat. We hiked past Myrtle Lake and Cow Creek Meadow, camped amidst Larch Lakes, crossed Pomas Pass into the Ice Creek drainage and then went up to Lower Ice Lake.

To provide some context, I am an inexperienced backpacker, but I am hoping to make more trips out there.   I was looking for something closer to home (I live in Wenatchee) that I could bring my dog and had cool destinations to look at, so I settled on Ice Lakes, Mount Maude, and Larch Lakes.
