About This Trail

Palmer Mountain is a steep, off-trail scramble near the Highway 2 tunnel east of Skykomish. The route gains over 5,000 feet to a summit at 4,206 feet, climbing through forest on abandoned logging roads and brushy slopes. WTA categorizes it as requiring "gear and expertise," and no maintained trail exists to the top.

Access begins at the Money Creek exit off Highway 2, following Forest Service Road 6030 until it ends. From there, the route ascends through thick forest with minimal flagging or tread. The mountain receives almost no visitors, with only two trip reports spanning over 25 years. One historic report from 2000 describes the general approach; a 2016 report confirms the route remains rarely traveled.

This is a peak for dedicated scramblers and completionists who enjoy route-finding in dense Cascades forest. The summit views are likely obstructed by trees given the relatively low elevation. Snow can be encountered on the upper mountain well into spring. Not a destination for casual hikers.
