Moore Point
Central CascadesBest Apr–Jun, Sep–Oct
A ferry-access lakeshore backpack on Lake Chelan that opens months before most Cascade trails.
About This Trail
Moore Point sits on the western shore of Lake Chelan, accessible only by the Lady of the Lake ferry from Chelan or Field's Point. The trail serves as a gateway to the Chelan Lakeshore Trail, a popular spring backpacking route that shakes off snow earlier than most Cascade destinations thanks to its low elevation. Hikers step off the boat and immediately find themselves in dry, open terrain with views across Lake Chelan and into the surrounding Entiat Mountains.
The lakeshore route from Moore Point heads south along Chelan's west bank, passing through wildflower meadows and open forests with consistent lake views. Major creek crossings run high in spring but diminish as the season progresses. Memorial Day weekend is a classic window for this trip, with roaring creeks and green hillsides before summer heat bakes the landscape. A backcountry camping permit is required (register in person at the ranger station, no fee), though the Moore Point Campground itself is currently closed to overnight use.
