About This Trail

Little Bear Trail loops 2.3 miles through ponderosa pine savanna within Lake Chelan State Park, gaining just 250 feet of elevation. The route passes through a tunnel under South Lakeshore Road and enters forest that has remained largely undisturbed since the park was established in the 1940s. Two loop options (Forest Loop and Bitterbrush Loop) combine for the full circuit.

The trail is well-maintained and wide, with gentle grades that work for young children and casual walkers. Views of Lake Chelan appear through the trees at higher points on the loop. Deer frequent the area, and spring brings wildflowers to the open savanna sections. The trailhead sits right next to a campground restroom, making it easy to find.

This is a good option for families camping at Lake Chelan State Park or looking for a short walk near the lake. The eastern Washington ponderosa landscape feels noticeably different from the dense west-side forests, with open spacing between trees and dry, needle-covered ground. Bear left at junctions for gradual climbing; bear right for a steeper start.
