Leavenworth Fish Hatchery
Central CascadesBest Apr–Oct
Flat, paved trails through a working salmon hatchery on Icicle Creek with interpretive exhibits and wildlife viewing.
About This Trail
The Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery occupies a sprawling site along Icicle Creek, offering about 5 miles of paved and crushed-gravel paths through the facility grounds. Once the world's largest fish hatchery, it still produces roughly 1.2 million Chinook salmon each year. The trails connect interpretive signs, wildlife viewing stations, fish-rearing ponds, and creek overlooks.
The main loop follows a paved path with interpretive signage, a picnic shelter, and multiple benches overlooking Icicle Creek. A crushed-gravel spur passes two fish ponds and leads to a wheelchair-accessible fishing platform. The terrain is entirely flat, making the whole network accessible to strollers, wheelchairs, and anyone looking for a low-key walk.
This is more educational facility than backcountry trail. Restrooms with running water are available, and the hatchery building itself offers indoor exhibits about salmon life cycles. The setting along Icicle Creek with surrounding Cascade peaks makes it more scenic than a typical interpretive walk. No pass or fee required.
