Icicle Ridge
Central CascadesBest Apr–Oct
Leavenworth's best early-season ridge hike with valley views and spring wildflowers.
About This Trail
Icicle Ridge is Leavenworth's go-to early-season hike. The trail climbs 1,800 feet over 3 miles via well-built switchbacks at a steady 10% grade, alternating between Ponderosa pine forest and open, sun-baked meadows. The ridgecrest saddle at the top delivers panoramic views of Leavenworth, the Wenatchee River valley, Tumwater Canyon, and Icicle Creek canyon with the Stuart Range beyond.
The south-facing aspect melts out early, often by April, making this one of the first trails in the Leavenworth area to go snow-free each spring. Wildflowers follow quickly: glacier lilies, lupine, and paintbrush color the meadows from April through June. Drury Falls, a seasonal waterfall dropping 1,270 feet in total, is visible from the ridge during snowmelt.
The trail sees steady use from Leavenworth visitors and locals, but the parking lot rarely fills. No pass is required. Watch for poison ivy patches along the trail. The lower sections are exposed and can get hot by mid-morning in summer, so early starts are worthwhile from June onward. A port-a-potty sits at the trailhead. Dogs are welcome on leash.
