Heybrook Ridge
Central CascadesBest Mar–Nov
A short, well-built trail to a knockout view of Mount Index, Bridal Veil Falls, and the Skykomish Valley.
About This Trail
Heybrook Ridge packs a disproportionate reward into a short hike. The Leovy Trail climbs through second-growth Cascade rainforest on finely crafted rock steps, switchbacks, and turnpikes built by WTA volunteers and Snohomish County Parks. The forest is dense Douglas fir and hemlock, keeping the route shaded and cool even on warm days.
A bench at the 1.2 km mark offers a rest stop with waterfall views through the trees. The summit viewpoint opens up a full panorama of Mount Index's craggy north face, Bridal Veil Falls cascading down the cliff, and the Skykomish River valley stretching east toward the Cascades. On clear days the scene is genuinely arresting for such a short walk.
The adjacent Erinswood Trail, an ADA-accessible woodland path, shares the same trailhead area. The ridge trail stays under forest canopy for most of its length, making it a reasonable rainy-day option, though the summit viewpoint sits exposed.

Safety & Considerations
Today's Hazard
- Strong sun — sunscreen, hat, and sunglasses recommended
Persistent Hazard
- No restroom facilities at trailhead
Getting There
Small lot fits 14-16 vehicles. No restroom at trailhead. No pass required. Dogs allowed on leash.
From Seattle, take US Highway 2 east through Monroe and Sultan. From the Sultan roundabout, drive 10.8 miles to the South Fork Skykomish River bridge. Turn left onto Index-Galena Road 0.4 miles past the bridge and continue 0.9 miles to Heybrook Ridge County Park on the right.
Morning starts catch the best light on Mount Index from the summit viewpoint. The short distance means this works as an afternoon side trip on the way to or from Stevens Pass.
Recent Reports
Empty parking lot on a moist Saturday morning and only one other person on the trail (plus another seen in Erinswood). The trail has good footing and was not too muddy from recent rains- one or two puddles before the final ascent could be sidestepped.
Trail was normal, mostly all in the shade at morning. Gentle inclines with a stream halfway and a killer view at the top for an easy hike.
Me and my friend started this hike from the Heybrook ridge TH at 9 am. around 10 cars at the parking lot, No bathroom facilities!
