About This Trail

Eightmile Mountain is an off-trail scramble rising above Eightmile Lake in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness near Leavenworth. There is no maintained path to the summit. Scramblers typically backpack to Eightmile Lake and then pick their way up the mountain's flanks using whatever route the terrain allows. The reward is a commanding view of the Stuart Range, Cashmere Mountain, and the chain of alpine lakes below.

The approach via the Eightmile Lake trail is well-maintained and popular, but once you leave it, expect Class 2-3 scrambling with route-finding through talus and steep terrain. Snow lingers on the upper mountain well into June, and early-season attempts require ice axe and crampons. The road to the trailhead (FR 7601) has parking restrictions, and camping is not allowed between the road and Icicle Creek.

This is a peak for scramblers who want a quieter objective than the nearby Stuart Range blockbusters. It sees far fewer visitors than Colchuck Lake or the Enchantments, and trip reports are sparse, which speaks to both the solitude and the commitment required.
