Columbia Breaks Fire Interpretive Center
Central CascadesBest Year-round
Three restored fire lookouts and interpretive trails covering wildfire ecology along the Entiat River Road.
About This Trail
The Columbia Breaks Fire Interpretive Center sits along the Entiat River Road and preserves three restored fire lookouts from different eras, including structures originally sited on Chelan Butte, Flat-Top, and Badger Mountain. The center's trail system covers about 1.3 miles across three short paths, each with a different focus.
The main loop includes 15 interpretive stops covering fire ecology, plant life, and forest management. The Firefighter Memorial Trail is a solemn 1/8-mile path honoring wildland firefighters who died in fires across the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest since 1920. The Trail of Fire and Forest adds another 1/3 mile of interpretive content. About three-quarters of the trail system is wheelchair accessible.
This works well as a roadside stop on the way to or from Lake Chelan or the Entiat Valley. The visitor center is sometimes unstaffed, but the trails and lookouts are accessible year-round. Views extend across the Columbia River drainage, and the interpretive content provides real educational value about wildfire in the PNW.
