About This Trail

Bridal Veil Falls is the lower objective on the Lake Serene trail system, a 4-mile round trip through mossy alder and maple forest to a dramatic waterfall spilling off the cliffs below Mount Index. The trail starts on an old road grade before narrowing and climbing through rock staircases to the falls viewpoint at 2 miles. The cascade drops roughly 100 feet off a rock face, producing heavy spray during spring melt and rainy periods.

The hike works year-round because the waterfall is most impressive during wet weather and spring snowmelt, exactly when higher-elevation trails are buried. The forest canopy provides decent rain cover on the approach, though the trail surface gets slippery and muddy in wet conditions. The junction with the Lake Serene trail at 1.5 miles lets you extend the trip to a full day if conditions and energy allow.

The trailhead parking lot fills on sunny weekends by midday. The access road has potholes but any vehicle can navigate them carefully. Dogs are welcome on leash, and the trail is manageable for older kids comfortable with some rocky sections and stairs.

The Road and Parking It's a short approach from the highway, and although there are some girthy potholes up to and including the parking area, they can all be maneuvered around. Parking was nearly full at high noon on a sunny spring Friday, mostly empty at 4pm when I left.

3 hours round-trip on slippery trails with an unintended detour. A beautiful spring day for a hike!
